Facilities Climbing Center
Tired of climbing the walls at home? We have an alternative adventure! Our indoor climbing center offers opportunities for Open Climb time, as well as additional classes and activities. The center offers two 30-foot climbing surfaces with routes of increasing intensities from beginner to intermediate. Also offered in the climbing center is a 20-foot pillar, a 15-foot “tight rope,” a 15-foot “log,” a “walk on the edge” on 5 ½ inch wide planks that jut out from the wall and a “leap of faith.” The leap of faith involves jumping a seven-foot gap from one platform to another.
The YMCA provides the following climbing equipment: harnesses, helmets and belay devices. The YMCA has lead/sport climbing capabilities and certified instructors. Belayers are present during all classes and open times. The Belayers Club allows certified members to use the facility at their convenience, without instructor supervision. Belayers Club members can use the wall at any time that does that not conflict with a scheduled YMCA activity (class, open climb or rental).
The climbing wall and ropes course are the perfect setting for team building activities. The Oshkosh YMCA offers a team building program that can be structured for your specific group. Groups range from corporate executives to youth church groups to families and more. This facility gives families and groups yet another opportunity to build bonds at the YMCA, since the climbing experience emphasizes the four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
